BMCC Knapsack Park POM Update Print E-mail
Saturday, 03 July 2010
To all Blue Mountains Football Club members ... help fix Knapsack Park !
YOUR LOBBYING IS REQUIRED – CHANGE COUNCIL’S MIND REGARDING KNAPSACK PARK
COUNCIL RESPONDS TO PEOPLE POWER

*** AN UPDATE (3 August 2010) ***

Well, it seems that our Ward 4 Councillors are still receiving correspondence regarding Knapsack Park.  A BIG thank you to all club members for contacting Councillors with positive comments - your messages have been heard!

We appreciate the positive actions of Councillors in rejecting the Council report that was presented at their 29 June 2010 meeting and in calling for a meeting with the club to hear our concerns.

In this regard, a meeting is being held between the club and Council on Thursday night at 7:30pm at Knapsack Park (5 August 2010) to discuss the Council report that was prepared - we'll be putting our club's position to Council and seeking a greater commitment by Council for improvements at Knapsack Park.

Our club will also need to commence its redevelopment plans at Knapsack to coincide with a time line, over the next few years, that is developed in unison with any Council proposal.

*** end ***

Many members will be aware that Blue Mountains City Council finalized a Plan of Management and detailed Masterplan for Knapsack Park.  Club President, Ian Monaghan, has talked about this regularly.

Item16 of the agenda of Council’s meeting on Tuesday, 29 June 2010 recommended Council remove the cricket wicket from Glenbrook Oval and install it between the football fields at Knapsack Park.  (Click here to read the Item 16 report).  It also recommended that Council not allocate any other money to any other improvement works at Knapsack Park.  Our Ward 4 Councillors have supported our Club by having the report deferred so as to allow further consultation between the Club and Council.

It is time for all Blue Mountains Football Club members to call & e-mail these councillors and tell them that you want the works to be carried out ... and ask why Council is proposing to not do any work at Knapsack Park when the field and car park are in such poor condition.

Our club can only change Council’s mind if EVERYONE lobbies our Ward 4 Councillors.  For anyone outside Ward 4, call your local Councillors and tell them as well!

Send an e-mail to Council at their BANG THE TABLE contact address on the website www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au.

IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, NO MONEY WILL BE VOTED FOR ANY WORK TO BE DONE AT KNAPSACK PARK.

Knapsack Park - Plan of Management

Most of you will be aware of the work our club has been doing for the last five years on a Plan of Management for the overall Knapsack Reserve, followed by a Masterplan last year for Knapsack Park (aka Knapsack Stadium) - click here to view the Masterplan.

Council has included $147,888 in 2013/4 and $500,000 in 2014/5 for Knapsack Park, in the future works budget information that is on its website. Fact Sheet 9 gives this information. This is Council's budgetted contribution at this stage. There will be other funds that we and Council try to source from state and federal government to supplement this to achieve the full three aspects of grounds, car park and clubhouse done. Council's allocation shown will not be the full amount.

The implications for our Club are massive for our 50th Anniversary in 2015. If this improvement work is going to occur on the grounds and car park, then the clubhouse will need to be demolished. This means that we need to have a new clubhouse designed, with Council approval, and funding issues resolved well before that. It may be that we are also asked to put some sort of contribution to the park works as well as paying a substantial proportion of the costs of a new clubhouse. We can expect a new clubhouse will cost at least $300,000. The new clubhouse at Warrimoo Oval for Lower Blue Mountains Rugby League was built to a great extent by the club members and a lot of costs were reduced in this way. Funds were also raised by activities for a number of years beforehand.

What is now needed is a show of support for Council's proposal at Knapsack Park. This can be done by club members logging onto the Council's Have Your Say web page www.bluemountainshaveyoursay.com.au.

Wet Weather Cancellations Print E-mail

Wet Weather Cancellations

If the Nepean District Soccer Football Association (NDSFA) or another Club cancels a game, the BMFC Competition Secretary will advise your Team Manager who in turn will advise you. If in doubt, contact your Coach or Manager.

ImageNote: - It is strongly recommended that each team makes specific arrangements for general matters like these at the start of the season.

Games can be called off due to wet weather in the following ways:

The NDSFA Competition Secretary will call all games off if Councils in the NDSFA area close their grounds.

The NDSFA Competition Secretary will call games off scheduled to take place on grounds closed by individual Councils in the NDSFA area. In these circumstances, the BMFC Competition Secretary will advise the affected BMFC team Managers of the cancellation. The Team Manager will advise the team members. Again, if in doubt, contact your Team Coach or Manager

Individual clubs will close their grounds. In these circumstances, either the other Club Competition Secretary or the NDSFA Competition Secretary will advise the BMFC Secretary who will advise the affected BMFC teams.

Please remember that these cancellations can occur ‘at the last minute’ and there have been occasions where teams have travelled to games only to find that the grounds have been closed. Every effort is made to avoid this, but it does happen.
